Social Williams has become more of a general purpose repository for the photos I take through the course of my day, and the course of my hobbies if I have time for them.

Photography is about the only one of my hobbies that is conducive to child rearing, I mean, it’s hard to stop and change a diaper while your wearing a respirator or measuring smokeless powder, neither situation is the type you want to get back to asking yourself where was I? That doesn’t mean I don’t still do those things, I just don’t do them as often as before.

Occasionally I will write about social issues and current events, but not as much as I thought.

Taking pictures and writing about their subjects is much more relaxing. It is the social issues and the current events that I’m most often trying to get off my mind anyway. That’s the reason I have hobbies in the first place.

Thanks for reading.

I resisted social media for years despite the fact that Information Technology is my business. Then after a record breaking year travelling to friends weddings I broke down and created a Facebook account. I wanted to see the pictures, and keep in touch with new and old friends. Their insistence that I create an account worked out really well with my own level of self involvement.

It didn’t take me long to realize that my posts, and many posts made by others were controversial and sometimes inflammatory. Checking Facebook became somewhat like reading the comments section of local news articles. By Christmas, I had had my fill of political posts, the “war” on Christmas, and most especially posts about Jesus.

I succeeded in spending a lot of time arguing with my friends and family. The truth is not everyone is interested in seeing much more than benign facts about your life.

In addition to my political views, some of my  hobbies have raised a few eyebrows. They do after all include shooting, gunsmithing, brewing, and photography. This works out to quite a few pictures of guns and alcohol.

I’ve decided to keep the commentary, and the guns and alcohol largely out of direct Facebook view. Instead, discreet links to this site will be the new norm.

well….as long as you like what you do…and you do it within your own 4 walls so to speak, it shouldnt matter to anybody.
whether its guns, brewing or that other troublesome subject, religion!
people think im a weirdo or a nut, just because i choose to use film cameras…sometimes very, very old ones…..
last time i was shooting in downtown vancouver with a twin lens reflex, some people gave me some very crazy looks….you know…like…”is that guy dumb or stupid, or both..looking inside that damn box..?”

Enjoyed looking at your entries… unfortunately, I must be an idiot, because I cannot figure out how to send you a private message. :/

Thanks. Are you supposed to be able to do that? If I said anywhere you should, my mistake.

No, I could not find anywhere saying you can, but typically there is a way, whether someone wanted to ask you a question privately. If you could drop me a note, my email is on my web site… http://www.dbpics.com thanks much!!
