Red Ryder BB Gun

“A Christmas Story” was released in 1983 and since has become a traditional American holiday film. For those of you who may not be aware (if that is possible), the plot simply revolves around a little boy who wanted a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas, and so the Red Ryder itself has also become an American Christmas icon, despite the fact that American kids these days don’t generally own BB guns, at least not publicly.

The Daisy Manufacturing Company still exists, and still makes this classic lever action air rifle.

I bought one for The Girl a few years back, because as the story goes, when her and her brother were kids they both wanted one for Christmas just like in the movie. Thanks to the misogyny of the times, only one arrived under the tree.

This Thanksgiving The Girl’s family was together again at the family home, and The Brother in Law found his old BB gun, and here it is… the classic Red Ryder. Take that Black Bart.
